Black Silicon carbide is brittle and sharp. It has good electrical and thermal conductivity. Microhardness is 3100-3280kg/mm2.
Abrasives articles made of it are suited for working on metal and nometalic material of low tensive strength such as grey cast iron, brass, aluminium, stone, leather and rubber etc. Moreover, it can be used in the manufacture of refractory products and electric industry etc.
